Thoughtworks team evaluated the production-grade capabilities of AI-generated code without human intervention through three contrast experiments. The experiments revealed that so-called 'vibe coding' (i.e., fully LLM prompt-driven development) is prone to failure when handling complex, evolving systems. A harsh reality emerged: AI is not a universal solution for code production, and its performance critically depends on human engineering discipline. The results showed that AI-assisted development only delivers reliable outcomes when developers incorporate TDD, modular architecture, and continuous feedback loops. At its core, AI-generated code remains probabilistic prediction rather than deterministic engineering. Delivering code directly without human rigorous review constitutes an irresponsible architectural decision.
